History of the aloe vera
Sumera
The first written records of the aloe vera plant and its supporting effect were handed down to the Sumera as early as 4000 years before Christ. Clay tablets were excavated in the Middle East or were deciphered in the 1960s (Oppermann 2004, p. 9).
Babylonians
Other sources report that pottery fragments were found with recipes dating back to 4200 BC, at the time of the Babylonians, who, according to records, used the plant when the intestines were sluggish. (Bankhofer 2013, p. 19).
Egypt
at the time of Cleopatra
Centuries later in the 16th century, other formulas with aloe vera were found on papyrus in Egypt, where Queen Cleopatra reigned, who also cared for her body with fresh aloe vera gel every day. Already in this time period people knew about the beauty properties of aloe vera (Oppermann 2004, p.10).
Among other things, the aloe vera leaf gel was also used for embalming mummies in Egypt. Cleopatra even used this as an eye drop and for your skin and eye area (Bankhofer 2013, pp. 19-20).
Medicus Hippocrates
The news about the effectiveness of aloe vera spread quickly and soon the Greek medicus Hippocrates became aware of this extraordinary natural remedy and studied its effects. He used the aloe vera for ulcers, hair loss or gastrointestinal complaints (Oppermann 2004, 10-12).
From the textbooks of the "father of medicine" called Hippocrates, applications with aloe vera emerge that promote hair growth and treat ulcers and stomach ailments (Bankhofer 2013, p. 20).
Naturalist Dioscurides
500 years later, the natural scientist Dioscurides became aware of aloe vera and recorded over 800 clinical pictures that he treated with the plant (Oppermann 2004, p.11).
Dioskurides
confirmed the effect that the gel closes wounds faster and diseases can be healed better. His textbook - De Materia Medica - reveals the uses of aloe vera gel for open wounds, hemorrhoids, boils and eye infections, which heal better through use (Bankhofer 2013, p.21).
Hildegard von Bingen
Another acquaintance from the field of naturopathy, Hildegard von Bingen, used the plant for stomach problems, jaundice, migraines or chills (Oppermann 2004, 10-12).
Marco Polo
The Chinese also knew early on about the properties and effects of the aloe vera plant. The world-famous merchant Marco Polo brought this knowledge to Europe. Aloe Vera was mainly used by ship travelers for diarrhea and sunburn (Oppermann 2004, 10-12).
Christoph Columbus
The ship traveler Christopher Columbus also became aware of the plant when he discovered America and then always carried enough aloe plants with him on his travels to be able to treat various diseases with them (Bankhofer 2013, p.22).

The herbal priest and water doctor from Bavaria, the founder of water treading, an extraordinary naturopath from the 19th century, mentions the use of aloe in his work "..." Here, above all, the good properties of aloe arborescens.
